Recently you may heard about MSN Live Search loophole. MSN Live Search in fact now is called Windows Live Search I’m not going to call it a loophole. It’s just a technique to rank your keywords or phrases in the first result page. This technique is not difficult to implement. I can say that it’s relatively quite easy. You can just spend 1 to 2 hour effort and 10 to 20 bucks to rank your keywords or phrases of your website high enough in MSN live search.
Honestly MSN Live Search has a very small percentage of total search traffic compared to Google and Yahoo. MSN Live Search is the third most used search engine in the U.S., after Google and Yahoo, according to Nielsen Netratings. Then should I consider to rank my keywords in MSN Live Search? Yes, I think you should. Although it’s small but still driving millions of search traffic per day. As such, it’s still a valuable marketing tool to be considered.
This technique does not guarantee you to have first ranking but the ranking position will be somewhere around 1 to 6. Here we go.
Step #1 – Choose Your Key Phrase
First step is to choose your key phrase you’d like to rank in MSN Live Search. For example, you may want to rank “seo singapore”.
Step #2 – Choose Your Domain Name
After you choose your key phrase, then go and register your domain name same as your key phrase but separated by hyphens, for example “seo-singapore.com”. The algorithm of Windows Live Search thinks that the website is highly relevant if your domain name is exactly same as they key phrase people are searching.
Step #3 – Choose Your Title
Title tag is one of the most important optimization technique in SEO. The title tag will always be shown in the search engine result page. In this step, try to make your title tag same as your key phrase but with additional words, for example “SEO Singapore – Your SEO Consultant”.
Step #4 – Set Your Meta Tags
Step 4 is to set your meta tags to emphasize your key phrase. Keywords meta tag and description meta tag should be set in this case.
<meta name=”keywords” content=”seo singapore”>
<meta name=”description” content=”SEO Singapore consultant providing the best SEO services in Singapore which you should not missed.”>
Step #5 – Build A Web Page
In this step, all you need is to build a single web page. Just to make sure you will include a few graphics and a few paragraphs in your web page. And you should mention the key phrase a few times in your paragraph, preferably the beginning, middle and end of the paragraph. Everytime your key phrase is used, remember to hyperlink back to your own single page URL.
Step #6 – Tell Windows Live Search About It
Finally tell MSN Live Search about your single web page website. You can do it by going here: http://search.msn.com.sg/docs/submit.aspx
Wait for a week or so for MSN Live Search to crawl, index and rank your key phrase.
Conclusion
MSN live search loophole is not a new technique. But it’s true and working as claimed. I’m going to arrange a testing to proof it. Once I’ve the result, I’ll reveal to all of you. Stay tuned!

How long would you think a keyword or set of keywords to rank on MSN?
Thanks,
-Mitchell
@Mitchell,
It will take around 1 week.
Hi Bey Luen, Thanks for reply.
I see what you’re saying about how to rank for MSN. I even like how you stepped us thorough the process from coming up w/ a key phrase down to putting up a description on the search engine for it to crawl. However, I’m curious about the longevity of performing these steps. How would one be able to rank for the key phrases you chosen for your site after you put in the initial work in getting it indexed?
@Webhead,
I understand your concern. All these steps are just for initial work to get indexed. In the long term, you still need to perform other SEO process such as inbound links building to continue enjoy the high rankings.
