There are a lot of debating between one way links, reciprocal links and three way links in the online marketing. Which linking tactics should I consider to get high search engine rankings and which one work best for your business? In this post, I would like to point out some of the important things you should take note during your link building process.
What Are One Way Links?
A one way link is a direct simple link from one website or web page to the other. For example, if you put a link in your web page pointing to http://www.example.com and that page doesn’t link back to your website then it is a one way link from your site to other site.
What Are Reciprocal Links?
A link is a reciprocal link if you link to a website and that website links back to your website. You send visitors to the other site and the other website sends visitors back to you. There are less people implementing reciprocal linking as part of their SEO strategy nowsaday. I will let you know the reason below.
What Are Three Way Links?
Some SEO experts believe that reciprocal links do not help web pages to get higher search engine rankings. So they invented three way links. Website A links to website B, website B links to website C, website C links to website A. This kind of linking is called three way links. Of course you can have four way or five way links, but they are not easy to implement and hard to maintain as three way linking is already considered complicated.
Which Kind Of Linking Strategy Will Get Higher Search Engine Rankings?
Quality inbound links definitely will help you to get higher search engine rankings of your keywords or phrases. It does not matter if a link is one way link, reciprocal link or three way link. As long as it is a good inbound link and source of the link have high PageRank and of course non-spammy site, it will help your rankings.
It is important that the links to your website are from related sites and on-topic, no matter it is one way, three way or reciprocal links. If a reciprocal link is a low quality page which looks like spammy site, it won’t have much effect to your search engine rankings and it might further hurt your rankings.
You can also include three way links in your SEO strategy but it might take you more efforts to create and maintain unless you have automated software to do the job for you.
Personally I prefer one way links due to two reasons. The first reason is your web pages or websites does not share the link juice with other website. The second reason is if you are building too many reciprocal links or three way links, you may end up having great number of outbound links which make search engines hard to follow all of them. I am not saying you should not have outbound links in your websites. You should build outbound links naturally so that Google does not think that you are just optimized your site for search engines.
Conclusion
One simple rule, if you want to improve your search engine rankings, try your best to get links from web pages that share similar topic with your websites, no matter one way links, reciprocal links or three way links. For me, I always give priority to one way links.

Do you think it benefits writers more to place links within paragraphs of the content rather than provide a resource list at the end of the content?
