There are a lot of monetization approach and you still can monetize from your existing blog besides advertising. For long-term, I recommend you host your blog on your own domain because you can have total control over the blog and you can try out many different monetization approach.

Here are some of my opinions.
1. One important way to maintain your rank is to get inbound links continously. SEO is not a one-time stuff, it is a long-term process.
2. You can write article that will attract people linking to you automatically, so you no need to spend great efforts in link building.
3. If you have hundreds or thousands of posts, then you might want to focus the link building on several important posts.

Great tips! Acquiring traffic in near real-time is a great accomplishment. It takes great awareness to realize a mistake like that from Google and then use it to your advantage. Kudos to you…also, just a quick FYI, when you say “Learnt” it should be “Learned”…

Also, I agree with your point about Google Analytics. It has topped nearly every single reporting platform I’ve had experience with. It is very very powerful.

Great tips and congratulations on the success on the great experiment. Traffic spikes are very useful. Getting it fro Google is really difficult. I haven’t tried it.

Fabulous tips.
How can you deal with the issue that your post may start to lose rank once others get on board with the same topic?
I believe that if you are ranking and getting traffic then Google will allow your spot to stay up for longer, but once the traffic recedes to your site you start to lose ranking; this is of course my theory that I am observing.
