Since the launch of this blog 20 days ago, I’ve managed to generate around 70 unique visitors and 110 pageviews daily. The result is quite good considering this is just a new blog. It’s impossible if I do not aggressively go after targeted website traffic for my blog since day 1.
I think it is better to share with you how I increase the targeted website traffic from 0 visitor to 70 unique visitors daily in just 20 days using some of the methods below. Most of these techniques are very simple to implement and if you’re serious about building your blog or online business, let’s face it, the first thing you’re going to need is targeted visitors.
Why Targeted Website Traffic?
In order to convert visitors into subscribers or buyers, you need targeted traffic or visitors. You want visitors to your blog or website who are already interested in your site’s topic, products or services. Those people are more likely to benefit from your site’s content or products.
Targeted traffic is the first ingredient for a successful website.
Below are my main 9 sources of targeted blog traffic:
#1 RSS Feed
One of most effective sources of traffic to my site is to have to be my RSS feeds. With the introduction of Google Blog Search, my new blog post will get indexed by Google within minutes after publishing. And I’m getting targeted readers coming from Google instantly. It’s because Google likes blog and RSS feed. And Google gives more weight to blog posts.
If you’re using WordPress as a blogging platform, FeedBurner is a good choice to manage your feed. For non-WordPress website owner, you can try Feedity to generate RSS feed for you.
It’s reasonable for every webmaster to put at least one blog on their site to increase exposure and bring in targeted traffic instantly.
#2 Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization (SEO) is also one of my favourite techniques to generate targeted visitors. 35% of my website traffic are coming from search engines mainly Google, followed by MSN and Yahoo. You must optimize your site for the search engines. Without optimization, search engines will not show your blogs or websites to searchers even if they’re indexed.
With increasing competition for almost all the main keywords, you should spend some effort in long-tail keywords as they have huge potential to bring you tons of targeted traffic.
You can start trying to use SEO WordPress plugins in my previous post to make your blog post optimized for search engines. SEO Book.com is one of the SEO resource-rich site you must not missed. There are a few free SEO tools that can help you to take advantage of your competitors.
#3 Article Marketing
Article markteting not only will bring targeted traffic to your website, but also increase your credibility and reputation. According to Wikipedia,
Article marketing is a type of advertising in which businesses write short articles related to their respective industry. These articles are made available for distribution and publication in the marketplace. Each article contains a bio box and byline that include references and contact information for the author’s business. Well-written content articles released for free distribution have the potential of increasing the authoring business’ credibility within its market as well as attracting new clients.
The trick of article marketing is to write helpful how-to articles on current topics that other webmasters want to reprint your articles on their sites. This will bring tons of interested readers to your blogs or sites and it will boost your link popularity to increase search engine rankings.
Ezine Articles is one of the most famous article distribution and repository service. In order to prevent duplicate contents which will be penalized by search engines such as Google, you should not directly use post your blog content to Ezine Articles.
#4 Newsletter
Building a large newsletter subscribers list is another method that is used by many successful bloggers and online marketers. You can use newsletter to offer helpful tips to your subscribers. It’s a very good way to build up a relationship with your visitors and subscribers in the long term.
Your newsletter should relate to your site’s theme and offer premium information on the same topic. Whether you believe it or not, if you operate a blog or site on a particular subject for long time (a coupon of years), you will fast become an expert on that subject. People will regard you and further boost your site traffic by making recommendation to other people.
#5 Free Products Or Services
Visitors love free products or services. They can be easily go viral which bring you a lot of targeted web traffic. As you might notice, I’ve build a free WordPress plugin to show Twitter Badge on your blog for your readers to follow your tweets easily. TwiBadge has started to go viral as it has been featured by quite a number of blogs. And TwiBadge plugin homepage has the most traffic compared to my other blog posts and pages.
Besides building software, you can also provide some free ebooks or reports for your visitors to download. These reports and ebooks should have links back to your sites and blogs.
#6 Participating In Forums
Forum is one of the traditional ways to generate targeted website traffic. The most common mistake that people make with this type of marketing is spamming the forums and not following etiquette. You should not try to sell your services or products or post meaningless off topic posts. Instead, you should interact in forum discussions to share your expertise and establish credibility with forum members. Be genuine and sincere, your hard works will be rewarded.
#7 Leaving Comments On Other Blogs
Although leaving comments on other blogs does not give you backlinks due to the nofollow attribute, but it does help you to increase exposure and readers tend to click on your profile link if your comment is helpful or meaningful. Remember to leave quality comment on similar topic to your websites or blogs. Do not comment on blogs which are irrelevant to your blogs as they do not bring you targeted traffic.
#8 Social Networking
Social networking is one of the hot topics in recent years. Networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter are used massively by online community for marketing purposes. I’ve been actively participate in Twitter for almost a month and I’ve managed to increase my followers to 630 around 20 days. Twitter has became one of my main traffic source and bring me visitors who are interested in my TwiBadge WordPress plugin or my blog posts. Try it and you will be surprise of the power of social networking.
#9 Social Bookmarking
Social bookmarking can also increase your traffic. Bookmark your blog posts to social bookmark networks like Digg, StumbleUpon and Reddit. Do not forget to submit your blog post every time you publish a post.
Conclusion
There are many other sources of traffic and ways to generate targeted website traffic but they are less popular. Increasing targeted visitors to your blog or website is an ongoing struggle for every webmasters. I hope that you can start trying to implement some of the technicques mentioned above. I’m sure they will work for you.
