Although many professional SEO experts agree that the Google PageRank has little to do with the actual performance and rankings of a website or web page, many webmasters still focus on getting high PageRank when it comes to link building and website promotion.
What Is PageRank?
According to Wikipedia:
PageRank is a link analysis algorithm used by the Google Internet search engine that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of measuring its relative importance within the set.
How To Fake The Google PageRank Of A Website?
The Google pagerank of a web page can be faked with a combination of 301 redirect and cloaking. The flow is as follows.
- When a Google search engine spider visit a web page URL, the web server redirects the spider to a web page with high PageRank.
- Google assigns the high PageRank to the page with the redirection because it thinks that those pages are identical.
- When a reader like you and me visits the web page, the web server does not apply redirection.
To us, the web page looks like having high PageRank although it hasn’t. You can see the PageRank in Google’s toolbar. This method doesn’t really increase the rankings of a web page in the search engine results. It just influences the PageRank display in Google’s toolbar. Google doesn’t like this method at all as it considers this as a spamming method.
How To Check If A Website Has A Faked PageRank?
If you suspect that a web page might have fake PageRank, you can always use the following simple method to check.
- Go to Google and search “info:domain.com” (without quotation marks, replace domain.com with the domain name that you would like to check)
- If there is no result returned or if the returned URLs don’t match with the original URL then it’s likely that the PageRank has been faked. If Google returns only one URL for the query and it’s matched with your original URL then the PageRank should be okay.
Why Should I Care About Fake PageRank?
Some people don’t care about PageRank but some people do really care about it. Google gives different weight on different type of links. For example, if you have a link from a PageRank 7 to your website, Google will assign more weight to the link with PageRank 7 compared to the link with PageRank 2. For me, I don’t really care about RageRank. My strategy is just building as many links as I can and as long as the link source is not from spamming website.
Conclusion
Don’t just focus on the PageRank value when you are building external links and promoting website. You should try to get good rankings for related keywords and phrases which bring you real traffic. You should also stay away from fake PageRank website and don’t waste your SEO effort when you’re implementing SEO.

I hate it when people with zero PR (your blog) say “I don’t really care about RageRank”. Page Rank is important (I am not fan of PR). You want to build more links which mean you want good PR.
OK forget my rude words. Nice post. I had some knowledge about Fake PR. I hate it when people use it. I many a times check others site for valid PR. Your domain is pretty new (just more than a month). Wait for 4-5 months you will get a good PR. Keep building links but opt for quality links. Try contacting other bloggers for link exchange.
I noticed a website the other day that had a Google toolbar incorporated in it background image with high page rank they must be trying to sell link at a premium or something who knows. Anyway I do agree in principle to the part on not worrying to much about page rank because the money is in a niche markets and branding, page rank is an effect or result of good marketing as it was designed to be. You are either swimming with the tide or against it.

@eordi,
First you need to optimize your web page title and content for these keywords. Second, get quality links from other websites pointing to your web pages with keywords included in the anchor text. It takes time to rank well in Google, it is not overnight process. And if the competition for those keywords are high, then it will even take more time to go to top rankings.
