As we all know, FeedBurner has been recently moving all of its feeds over to Google server. And we are forced to create a Google account and migrate our feeeds by manually following on-screen instructions and clicking of the next button.
I myself have upgraded the account to Google successfully without any issue. But I still feel disappointed about Google and FeedBurner because they are destroying the brand and image built in years. Why I’m saying that? I didn’t expect the new system is so buggy as many bloggers complaint about losing 100’s or 1000’s or even all of the subscribers overnight after migration.

There are a few things that are questioning my mind.
Question #1: No Migration Plan?
Initially, FeedBurner and Google planned to move all of its feeds to feedproxy.google.com but finally they decided to use feeds2.feedburner.com. It’s strange for me. Why they don’t choose feedproxy.google.com as this is indicating the FeedBurner feeds is under big Google brand? Somehow feeds2.feedburner.com address make me feel like not migration at all. And why they can’t just move all of its feeds to feeds2.feedburner.com and they want to use another temporary feed address? And they’re not communicating the details of the migration plan to all of the publishers as early as possible. I think they don’t have a proper migration plan.
Question #2: Didn’t Do The Test?
From developer point of view, data migration is very critical and always cause a lot of problems. Is FeedBurner really scratching its head and come out as much test cases as possible? Is Google execute the test throughroughly? Seems like the answer is no and I doubt the quality of the team.
Question #3: Not Enough Resources?
Since the acquisition by Google, the founder has been working in the AdSense team. So now who is the person in-charge of FeedBurner? Is he experienced? How big is the team managing FeedBurner business? I think most of us are curious to know the answer.
If Google want to kill FeedBurner, then forget about the noise in blogosphere. But if Google still want to continue FeedBurner business, they need to put in more efforts now as people start losing confident and it takes time to rebuild confident level. I hope that Google can quickly resolve the issue and make the system stable enough like before.
From my point of view, I think the market should have another feed management service provider to compete with Google and FeedBurner. One or two competitors should help to grow the industry and keep each other alert.
