2 Simple Ways To Find Great Keywords

in Search Engine Optimization

Keyword research is the fundamental step in SEO process. I agree that it is a tedious and painful activity. But if you do not find correct keyword to target, it might waste your time and resources.

Here are 2 simple and quick ways to find traffic generating keywords for your web pages and posts.

#1 Google Search Box

Assume that you have a site related to SEO and you would like to write an article about link baiting.

So you can go to Google and type in “link baiting”. Here is the screenshot.

Google Search Box

You can see there is a list of keywords suggested by Google. You can actually click the keywords shown in the list and go directly to the search engine result pages. For example, clicking on “link baiting ideas” will take you straight to the result page.

As you can imagine, this suggested list make your life easier to look for longtail keywords. Since longtail keywords are much easier to rank in Google, it’s a good idea to start targeting on them.

While searching for “link baiting” keyword, many people will also notice other keywords presented by Google and click on them. This makes those other keywords great terms to include in your article content.

#2 Google Related Search Terms

You need to use popular keyword for this method. For example, we can search for “seo” term. Once you’re inside search engine result page, you can go to the bottom of the search result page and find related search terms. Here is the screenshot.

Related Search Terms

Each releated keyword is link to another relevant search engine result page. It is also a good idea to target these keywords.

Conclusion

The methods mentioned above are quick and simple ways to find great keywords for your SEO purpose. But they are not all for your SEO process. You still need to go through keyword searches analysis and competition analysis before you decide which keyword to target.

Hi, Bey!!

As always your tips are useful.
I would like to contribute tell you what I have learn from a friend of mine.
You can also find your real competition for that on Google just to using a couple of simple technical step.
1.- After your search at Google you can search the same long tail phrase at Yahoo and you will find several variation on your keyword.
Taking your example: link baiting strategies you could find at Yahoo:
# link baiting strategies hook
# link baiting strategies “social media”
# baiting strategies “link building”
# link baiting strategies PubCon
# link baiting strategies bloggers
Which are more specific for the keyword optimization.
2.- After choosing your final keyword then you can analyze at Google again what it is the real competition for that specific keyword.
Let’s take: baiting strategies “link building” searching at Google you find 31,400 searches but that is not the real competition. If take it again but now in this form “baiting strategies “link building” your search drop to 1,060 searches and finally to see how many of the competition has the keywords in their title all you have to do is:
intitle:”baiting strategies “link building” and the search drop dramatically to just
76.
Now you can be sure that your competition it’s minimal for that specific keyword.

I hope this can compliment your post

These are two really great ways to find keywords. It is often very interesting to see what Google suggests when you type in certain keywords. The Google suggest is another great (but under-utilized) way to identify quality keywords for your campaign.

Just a simple info how to look at the keywords competitor. When you type your keyword ‘ link baiting ideas ‘ and hit Enter button, look at the right corner for the figure. That is the related web/blog for “link baiting ideas’. Example =>> Results 1 – 10 of about 198,000 for link baiting ideas. This mean 1-10 list at front page and the other 197,990 list at the following pages.

@DarrenNg The method you use for determining competition is not accurate. The Total number of Result is only the number of websites using that phrase in there page. It has nothing to do with competition as anyone can beat those pages which just have keyword in the page and not in title and having 0 backlinks to that page.

@Felicita Vazquez The method you described is somewhat ok but still we cannot derive competition only if a page is using phrase in there title. There can be some websites having 1000s of backlinks related to that term which makes those pages rank higher. So even if you have 150 results when you use “” it can’t be accurate too.

Hi,

Nice ways to find related keywords. Here is another way
Just click on the top left of the search results page that says show options, there you’ll find various ways to look at your search. And if you want to see only the related terms click the related term link mentioned below Standard view there you will find even more related keywords. Or you can play with Wonder wheel.
